How the LeClaire River Loft and Chateau came to be….
Heidi and Robert Holst purchased the charming building at 114 N Cody Road with the idea that LeClaire needed an alternative to a hotel room. After traveling a lot for business and pleasure, Heidi often tried to find something that either allowed a little more comfort when traveling with children; “With 4 young kids, we would find our selves usually paying for 2 hotel rooms, praying that they would be adjoining just to allow us to spread out a little bit and be more comfortable” Usually a vacation home or villa would rent for $250 to $300 a night, which is a lot if you are only spending a day or 2.
When we traveled with out the kids, we were usually on business and I loved to shop and explore the town while Robert worked during the day, I never like leaving my purchases in the room knowing they were going to come in to clean or service the room, also, we love to sit and have a glass of wine or wind down before we would head out to dinner. After seeing the porch and beautiful gardens I thought who wouldn’t want to sit here and enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown LeClaire!
When I furnished the loft, I tried to think of all the things I like to have when I’m away from home. A full size coffee pot with plenty of cream, a wine opener, a blow dryer and a comfortable bed were a must! Also a book compiled of everything there is to know about the shopping, dining and entertainment is important for travelers! My goal was to make the LeClaire River Loft a place you can’t wait to visit or come back to!
One year later, in November 2011, we purchase another property at 402 North Cody Road just one block north of downtown LeClaire to accommodate the growing demand for larger groups. This quaint 3 bedroom home overlooks the Mississippi River and sleeps up to 9 people comfortably.
